Summer is our favorite time of year here on the farm. Not only do we have a full house with guests, but it’s the time of year where we get to play outside, grow things and enjoy the lovely northern Minnesota summers. Plus, this summer we have the extra fun of our new flock of chickens to entertain us.
If you’re planning a trip up north, there are great festivals, classes and county fairs that should definitely be on your itinerary. Here are a few of our favorites:
Take a Class at the Ely Folk School
If you enjoy handmade crafts, growing and making, then check out the schedule at the Ely Folk School. We’ve highlighted a few of our favorite classes below, but there are a lot more to check out! This is an amazing organization just 30 minutes from the B&B. Jeff and I are thinking of taking the Craft a Cobweb Broom class on July 29th — come and join us!
Head out to the Fair!
Are you a sucker for deep fried snacks, award-winning veggies and a gang of barnyard friends? Then plan on heading out to the St. Louis County Fair or our very own Embarrass Fair this August. While the St. Louis County Fair might have everything from carnival rides to homemade jam, we’re partial to the Embarrass Fair just a mile from the B&B — we’ve still got a few rooms available so book now for some small town fun!
Art and Music Festivals
Northern Minnesota is home to amazing art and music festivals! If you love hand thrown pottery, jewelry, textiles and more, then plan on heading to the Blueberry Arts Festival with more than 260 artists and crafters, 30 food vendors and more than 40,000 visitors over the three-day festival. If music is more your style, then check out the Northern Lights Music Festival this July — we’re happy to be hosting musicians and production folks from the festival again this year. We also have the Ely Blues Fest in August with some of the best blues music and top musicians from across the country and beyond.
Looking for more fun things to do during your stay at Northern Comfort this summer? Please drop us a note and we’ll help you plan your trip.
